intensive practice of grammar, vocabulary, phrases learnt
through examples, drill patterns (including Hanyu Pinyin
pronunciation), dialogues, substitution exercises, and role play

confidence.
Elementary
Level Course
The Elementary Level is meant
for students who have little or no exposure to Mandarin. The

names/surnames/nationalities, expressing past tense, question
tag, expressing intention, numerals, vocabulary on traveling and
distance, asking permission, making suggestions, use of
classifiers, expressing possession, terms for seasons, dates and
festivals. Texts are written with Pinyin annotations. Upon
completion of the course, students are expected to be able to
conduct simple everyday conversation.
Lower
Intermediate Level Course
At the Lower Intermediate Level,
students will acquire a wider vocabulary in a variety of
practical situations like traveling, shopping, food, and have a
deeper understanding of Chinese culture. The content includes
expressions for time and telephone conversation, making
comparisons, passive voice, expressing supposition, conditional,
causality, reservation, immediacy, terms for illness and parts
of the body. Learning to write Chinese characters is optional.
Intermediate
and Advanced Levels Courses
Upper Intermediate and Advanced
Levels are literary courses that serve not only to enrich the
students with idiomatic expressions, but more importantly, to
train them in reading and writing the Chinese characters for
practical usage so that they can interact freely with Chinese
communities all over the world. Students who are ambitious and
wish to proceed to the Upper Intermediate and Advanced Level
will learn to write 1,500 Chinese characters at each level.
They will be able to read simple texts from books, magazines and
newspapers. |
